The burnout syndrome is exceedingly common in the world. It is a new decease with mental breakdowns in very capable young people who are on lower or higher work positions in the society. The fast working pace, high pressure for time limits, performance in work and life in general makes the mind go on overload.

Could this person be you?

* Run to get the kids ready for school.

* Going in rush hour to work.

* Being pushed by deadlines, supervisors and directors.

* Staring at the computer all day and faking a smile while talking on the phone.

* More coffee and some fast food to eat.

* After work rushing to the next activity being the gym or bringing kids from here to there.

* Home late, homework, dinner, preparation for next day and crashing in bed.

Reasons for mind overload

Another reason for mind overload is a lack of rest. A constant high level of stress turns the mind into a machine that is hard to turn off. You can't sleep because the mind is running at a hundred miles an hour. In the sleep the mind normally digest all the information from the day and it will release unexpressed feelings and energy.

Your mind needs a break

If you don't let the mind rest it becomes agitated and drowsy. You lose the capability to concentrate and connect with your creativity.

The mere fact that you can't turn off your mind at night shows you that your mind is on overload. You are probably stressing yourself, thinking about what needs to be accomplished or worrying about causes that you might not know the outcome of.

The mind is working overtime when you don't let it rest. The combination of a lack of sleep, bad eating habits, fast processed food, a high sugar intake and too much coffee have a very negative effect on the mind.

When the mind can't keep up with the pressure it goes blank or into a mental break down. This can lead to a vicious cycle, taking you deeper down the spiral.

Leaving the rat race

Many people are realising the downfalls with this "rat race" and are making healthier choices for themselves. There are always adjustments that you can do to make your life better.

Conscious observation and reflection upon your life, where you are and where you are going, will bring clarity. We are all part of a system and you might not have the recourse, time or space in the present to change immediately, but you can still adjust your life within your limits.

The best things in life are free. Make positive changes like starting to exercise or meditate, trying yoga and eating healthier. Read inspirational books, go for walks, spend less time looking at television, talk to someone you love, buy some flowers, work with your emotions and observe your mind.

This will propel you in your direction for a change.

Your life is like a car, keep both hands firmly on the wheel, steer it where you like it to go. Take your hands off and you go right into the ditch.

If you do make the decision to slow down, rest your mind and live healthier, you need to acknowledge yourself. You are valuing yourself, your precious life and your self-respect. The change can only build health, integrity and self esteem. Each one of us will slow down sooner or later, once we can not or will not continue with a stressful life. Only you can decide.
