Which Acne Treatment is Right For Your?


16 "Does and Don'ts For the Best Results Acne Treatment Results!

STEP1: Do Not Pop…Squeeze…or Pick!

Popping, squeezing, and picking may seem like the easiest way to get rid of acne…but it's not! The reality is any time you pop, squeeze, or pick you only make your acne worse. These methods can cause permanent scars. They also irritate your skin…and irritated skin is more likely to break out.

STEP 2: One Way Dermatologist Recommend Treating Mild Acne.

Many effective products are available without a prescription for people who have mild acne. Look for a product that contains benzoyl, peroxide or salicylic acid. If you have oily skin, choose an acne gel or solution. For dry skin and acne cream or lotion is best.

STEP 3: Gentle Skin Care Can Improve Results.

To clear acne, you often need to do more than apply a product. You need to be gentle to your skin. Don't scrub your skin. Don't use a cleansing puff, wash cloth, or abrasive cleaner. These can irritate the skin and lead to breakouts.

STEP 4: Gently Skin Care Begins with a Mild Cleanser.

Dermatologist recommend washing acne-prone skin twice a day with a mild soap or cleanser and rinsing with warm water. Use your hands gently to apply the cleanser and rinse.
STEP 5: Always Apply Acne Products to Clean Skin.

After washing is the best time to apply an acne product. If the product stings your skin, be sure to wait 10 to 15 minutes before applying it. Stinging means you have irritated the skin. Anything that irritates your skin often leads to breakouts.

STEP 6: Apply Product to All Acne Prone Skin.
Dermatologist recommend that you apply an acne-fighting product to the entire acne-prone area, not just the blemishes. It's best to dab several smaller amounts onto the skin and spread it around. This delivers a stronger concentration of medicine to several areas and increases effectiveness.

STEP 7: Give Acne Products Time to Work.
Despite the claims made in many ads, acne does not clear up over night. It generally takes 4-12 weeks of using a product to see any improvement.

STEP 8: Cleanse After Sweating.

Sweating, especially under a hat or helmet, can lead to breakouts. Gently cleansing the skin as soon as possible after sweating helps to clear the skin and prevent breakouts. You may want to consider keeping acne wipes in tour locker or gym bag.

STEP 9: If Your Hair is Oily…Shampoo it Daily!

This step is very important while you are trying to clear your skin. It's also important to maintain once your skin clears. Oil from your hair can clog pores and lead to breakouts.

STEP 10: Use Oil-Free Products.

Your skin care products and cosmetics should say "oil-free"…"won't clog pores"….or "noncomedogenic." Products that clog pores can lead to breakouts. To prevent breakouts after acne clears, continue to use oil-free products

STEP 11: Avoid Abrasive Skin Care Products.

Anyone with acne or acne prone skin should avoid abrasive products. Abrasive soaps, facial scrub, toner, astringent, and masks can irritate the skin. Irritated skin is more likely to breakout.

STEP 12: After Acne Clears…Continue Treating.

Many people make the mistake of stopping their acne treatment once their skin clears. To keep skin blemish free, most people need to continue to use at least 1 acne product. If you have been using a product available without a prescription, you may be able to taper your use to a few times a week.

STEP 13: See a Dermatologist if Acne Does Not Clear.

While many effective acne products are available without a prescription, these products do not work for everyone. A dermatologist can look at what types of acne you have and determine what type of treatment is best for your individual needs.

STEP 14: Combination Therapy May be Necessary.

For treatment to work, it must interfere with what's causing the acne. Most acne treatments only interfere with one cause. When a patient has blackheads, whiteheads, and pimples clearing often requires prescription medications.

STEP 15: Severe Acne Needs a Dermatologist Help.
Products available without a prescription won't clear severe acne. Severe acne requires aggressive treatment to prevent scars. Research shows that acne can diminish self-esteem and quality of life. Treating severe acne early can prevent a lifetime of emotional a stress and low self-esteem.

STEP 16: Virtually All Acne Can be Successfully Treated!

Thanks to medical research, no one has to live with acne. Many effective acne treatments exist today. Many long-used treatments have changed, leading to better results. If you do not get the results you seek, you may want to talk with a dermatologist. Some treatments are only available through a doctor.
