Attention span is the amount of time a child can concentrate on a task without being distracted. Loss of attention span is common in children. School or learning activities require a longer attention span. Parents and teachers often complain that children just don't want to pay attention. Short attention span in children can be easily fixed with just little effort.

Implementing these simple steps will increase your child attention span.

Limit watching television to maximum two hours per week. The studies show that very young children who watch television every day face an increased risk of attention deficit problems by school age. Television over simulates and permanently rewires the developing brain of a child.

Limit video game playing and computer time. Playing video game and working on computer inhibits visual skill development needed for reading.

Take your child to the park every day. Increase amount of time your child spend on outdoor games. Outdoor games or activities improve child's visual skills such as eye-hand co-ordination.

Reading is also very important to increase attention span in a child. Read your child a book daily for at least 10 to 20 minutes and encourage them to visualize the story in their mind. Reading will increase their visual memory skills needed in all school and learning activities. Studies have shown that reading improves child ability to concentrate and improve their memory.

Studies have shown that music enhances child's cognitive thinking skills. Spend 10 minutes listening music and dancing with your child.

A good night's sleep makes concentration easier for a child. Studies have found that if the child does not get 8-9 hours of sleep, then they can't pay attention.
