Managing eczema with your child takes a determined and constant approach. It is important to consider how you can eliminate some of the factors that may be triggering or exacerbating your child's eczema.  One of the main contributors to the condition is very dry and itchy skin so it will be necessary to build in a good skin care regime into the daily routine.  Keeping the eczema clean and then following it up with daily use of emollients to keep the skin well moisturised is necessary. Use a specific emollient that is made for very dry skin conditions not just daily scented moisturiser.

It will also be important to ensure the eczema patch does not get infected from scratching with dirty hands or nails as this will make it worse.  Consider if having pets is adding to the eczema condition as pets with fur or feathers can both trigger eczema. In the house, get into the habit of doing daily vacuuming and dusting with not with canned polishes but by using a wet duster with plain water as this cuts down the dust mites that we all have in our homes.  The dust or house dust mite loves warm damp places so ensure regular vacuuming of the bedclothes and mattress as this will help.    Eczema can be difficult not just for the child suffering but for the whole family – especially at night when hot and tired.  Take advice from your Doctor or child nurse regarding the range of topical treatments.
