You've been anticipating — and possibly dreading — the "big day" for weeks. The nature of the event isn't important; it may be a first date, an important job interview, or your own birthday party. You try to hide behind hair or heavy make-up. But you can't ignore the face in the mirror. Sound familiar? For +Stories/Gallery.aspx acne sufferers all over the world, these scenarios are all too common. Fortunately acne can be managed by following some simple guidelines.

1) Nourish
A balanced diet can help give your body the tools it needs to fight bumps and blemishes. Choose fresh fruit over french fries, and balance your meals with foods from all four groups. Drink at least eight glasses of water every day.

2) Cleanse
A cleansing routine is essential for maintaining a clear complexion. Use an exfoliating cleanser such as +Proactiv/The+Proactiv+Solution+Approach.aspx Proactiv Renewing Cleanser to gently wash your face twice a day to remove excess oil, gently buff away impurities and dead skin cells. But remember, since acne isn’t caused by dirt, overwashing won’t help - it’s more likely to irritate your skin, causing it to produce even more oil.

Proactiv Solution acne management can help make it easier to treat and control acne.

3) Protect
Small amounts of sun exposure may initially improve acne but the benefit is temporary. Consistent sunbathing will cause plugging of the pores and comedones (blackheads and whiteheads), creating the ideal environment for blemishes. So it’s important to wear an SPF 15 sunscreen every day.

4) Rest
A good night’s sleep (7-8 hours) can do wonders for your complexion. How? A healthy, well-rested body has the resources to build a strong immune system. While a robust immune system won’t prevent acne all together, it can help fight infection so your lesions clear up more quickly. If you don’t get enough rest, your skin may look pale and dull, and break out.

5) Exercise
Movement improves circulation and helps you relax, reduce stress and increase your energy level. Your skin benefits from an increase in blood flow achieved by a higher heart rate and oxygen level in the bloodstream. If you are prone to body acne, wear loose-fitting cotton clothing when exercising.

6) Relax
When you become tense, your adrenal glands flood your bloodstream with the hormone cortisol, hormone levels rise and cause acne flare-ups. So it’s important to take time out of every day to relax, take a deep breath and release the tension in your body.
