Summer is a time for leisure and fun; however, many of us forget to take the proper care of our skin during these hot and humid months. Summer is not only known for relaxation and entertainment, it is also known for scorching heat and skin damage. Many of us are aware of the fact that skin cancer is a major danger during the summer months. And for those of us who live in a tropical paradise, skin cancer is a danger all year long. So what can we do to protect our skin from these hot and humid days?

The first and most important thing is to moisturize your skin. During the summer months, your skin requires more moisture because you lose most of your body water by sweating. It is best to use a moisturizer with an SPF of at least 15. Many of us already have a routine of putting on a moisturizer but we don’t have a routine of putting on sunscreen; therefore it is essential that your daily moisturizer has SPF already in it. For those of us who have fairly oily skin, there are many products out there which contain SPF and are oil free.

Furthermore, during the summer, people usually have a higher tendency of developing acne or skin blemishes. One way that you can avoid blemishes during the hot and humid months is by steaming your face routinely. When you steam your face, your pores open up and you are able to clean your face of the oils and dirt which would otherwise remain trapped in your pores. If you have dry skin, steam you face for only five minutes. If your face is oily, you can steam your face for ten minutes.

Avoiding hot and humid weather is nearly impossible, but avoiding negative effects of summer on your skin is attainable.
