Before we look at the sleep deprivation symptoms, let us look at what causes people to not get sleep, and its effect on those suffering from it.

Almost one quarter of adults are affected by insomnia. Insomnia/sleep deprivation can be caused by a number of factors. Alcohol plays a role, because it impedes deep sleep, so you should avoid it right before bed. Caffeine is a common trigger of insomnia, so this should be avoided at least five hours before sleeping. Arthritis is a common cause of insomnia, because the pain makes it tough to sleep. Menopause is another insomnia trigger. But the most common cause is in your head. Anxiety, depression, and stress are all major contributors to sleep problems. Try your best to clear your mind before you go to sleep.

Some of the common sleep deprivation symptoms include fatigue, exhaustion, and a drop in energy levels. If you have an excessive desire to nap during the day, this can be another one of the sleep deprivation symptoms. And these conditions can lead to cognitive difficulties as well. People who are sleep deprived have a difficult time concentrating, and making important decisions or solving problems. Their ability to drive a vehicle can be impeded as well. Insomniacs who are constantly sleep deprived have been known to age quicker than most other people, and are also at risk of developing a number of serious medical conditions, such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and even a stroke.

Sleep deprivation symptoms can be very serious, but the good news is that they can be cured naturally, without the use of drugs. In this article, we mentioned some of the ways to cure insomnia, but for the entire list, check out the book Stop Insomnia here
