There are many reasons a person may lose their hair. It could be from things as simple as stress, depression or diet. It could even be for more complex reasons such as hormonal imbalances and genes. There are different ways of treatment for the different types of hair loss. It could be as simple as distressing your life and seeing a therapist. Or it can even range as complex as hair transplant surgeries. In order to truly understand the right course of action to take for your hair loss, you should make sure you know the reasons for hair loss, as they pertain to you. The most common form of hair loss is androgenic alopecia. This is hair loss that comes from your genes, meaning that it passed down from generation to generation. So if your father and your grandfather were bald, chances are, you are going to be bald as well. It is also referred to as male pattern baldness and female pattern baldness. The most common treatments for these are Monoxodil (which is the same thing as Rogaine), a lotion you put on your scalp and finasteride, a prescribed pill for men only. Another way that your genetics can play a role in hair loss is with an autoimmune disorder called alopecia areata. This disorder makes your immune system attack your hair follicle. It can be treated a number of different ways including, injections, creams, laser therapy and even immune suppressing drugs. Even medical conditions such as iron deficient anemia and thyroid problems can cause hair loss. These conditions are treated with pills and supplements to get your body the proper nutrients it is missing. Hair loss can also come from infections as well. A hair loss common in children is tineas capitis, or scalp ringworm. It is a contagious fungal infection that causes patchy balding spots to occur, redness and even oozing. It is very easily treatable with a pill or liquid medication, which is a good thing. Folliculitis is the inflammation of the hair follicle. This can happen for many reasons. It can lead to an infection in the hair follicle, which can permanently damage it. If caught soon enough it can be treated with an antibiotic ointment. There are also many other things that can be reasons for hair loss. Wearing hairstyles that are very tight can cause traction alopecia. Simply changing your hairstyle can often times cure this condition. Some hair loss is a result of a compulsive pulling of hair. This can be treated through therapy. Hormonal imbalances can also cause your hair to fall out. The good news is though, once your hormones go back to normal your hair will begin to as well. Knowing the reasons for hair loss can give you insight into how to treat them. There are many different explanations. It could be one factor or a combination of factors that are causing it. No matter what treatment you choose, you should always remember that hair regrowth is a slow process.
