This is not the case new rules from Brussels say that a tourist fined or receiving a fixed penalty for anything over £50 within the EU will receive a court summons no matter where they live.
Of course Hamilton is not the only Celeb to be caught in speed traps both at home and abroad. Supermodel Caprice was pulled over in December 2005 for racing down Tottenham Court Road in London she was fined £1,000 and also had to pay £2,500 costs.
Then there is Jordan’s other half Peter Andre stopped for flying along in his Mercedes in July 2005, his 49mph in a 30mph zone even his highly paid expert legal advice couldn’t stop him from receiving a ban from driving as well as a £500 as well as £35 in costs.
Then there was the case of the cricketers who thought they were race car drivers, Surrey player Rikki Clarkeand his Middlesex counterpart Owais Shah were pulled in for racing along the M1 in Nottingham, each received a fine of £800 for driving at 125mph in addition the pair received a two month ban and a huge increase in insurance rates
Speeding and sports stars seems to go together famous boxer Amir Khan could have done with some friendly advice on speeding, he may have then avoided knock out blow from the judge which included a six week ban and £1,000 fine for driving his 6 series BMW along Manchester’s M62 at 155 Mph for no less than 11 hair raising miles.
Another famous pugilist Frank Bruno was fined £60 plus costs of £43 when he fell foul of the law on the A1 near Barrowby when he was sucker punched by the police for driving at 92mph. Former Eastender Dean Gaffney aka Robbie Jackson managed to get himself in hot water at 98mph in a 50 zone resulting in a relatively small fine of £115 but he also received 3 points on his licence.
We do expect some “Celebs” to be more responsible than others such as the Right Honourable Harriet Harman MP who was fined £400 and banned for a week for running her Bentley at a not so regal 99Mph near Bristol.
It seems that there are lots of Celebs who could use some advice on speeding , or a little less inclination to believe that they are above the speeding laws that govern us mere mortals. They may often have access to expert legal advice that many of us could not afford, but it’s a poor excuse for floating the law.
