More than likely you have heard about stretch marks, and there is a good chance that you actually have a few of your own. So, you may be wondering how stretch marks actually occur. Well, what happens is that when skin gets stretched out due to quick growth, it can have a hard time bouncing back to normal. Often, instead of getting back to normal, the skin actually becomes scarred by stretch marks. In the beginning the stretch marks can look an angry red or even purplish. However, later they usually become less noticeable as a light silver or white color.

Stretch marks are basically scars that occur in the dermis of your skin. The dermis is the middle layer of your skin. It works to make sure your skin maintains its shape. When the dermis continues to be stretched out, it often breaks down and stretch marks are left behind. Women usually are more prone to develop stretch marks, but they occur in men as well, and in some cases they even occur to younger teens. The most common places for stretch marks to occur include the low back, the upper arms, the thighs, the breasts, hips, and of course the stomach area.

Options for Reducing Stretch Marks
While dealing with stretch marks can be very frustrating, youll be glad to know that there are a variety of options for reducing your stretch marks. Of course they may not always be totally successful, but although they wont totally get rid of the stretch marks, they can really help. The following are a few options you have to consider if you want to reduce the appearance of your stretch marks.

Option 1Eat Right and Exercise First of all, you can help to reduce the appearance of stretch marks by making sure that you eat right and exercise as well. Water is a key thing you need to take in if you want to prevent and treat your stretch marks. It will help keep your skin well hydrated and soft. Exercising can help to keep the skin nice and toned, which can also be a huge help. Eating foods high in vitamins and minerals is also important as well so your skin gets all the important nutrients that it needs.

Option 2Over the Counter Creams There are many over the counter creams that are available for treating stretch marks. However, you should know that not all of the creams out there really offer results. Consider asking your doctor about these creams or even take some time to read reviews on various creams to find out if they really work on stretch marks and if they are worth the money youll have to pay for them.

Option 3Surgical Options Last of all, there are some surgical options that some people turn to in order to get rid of their stretch marks. Laser treatments can help in some cases, and chemical peels and dermabrasion are also used as well. Just remember that these treatments are not always totally effective and they can definitely cost you quite a bit of money.
