“Thoughts become things”Napoleon Hill was the first to say it. Over the years many motivators, life coaches and more have also been using that simple phrase to bring across a very BIG idea. I want you to take special note that the phrase does not say “goals” become things, but THOUGHTS!

Am I saying you only have to think about something for a little while and it will come true at that exact moment? No, but goals help to set you on course and by help I really do mean that they help tremendously because without them you have no idea where you are going. It’s like having no steering device for your thoughts, to enable them to ultimately become what you have been thinking about. So goals are very important, but they are not all you need.

One of the main reasons for getting your thoughts in order, your ducks in a row as far as goals are concerned, is so that the universe knows in what direction you are going and exactly what all of the desires of your heart is. Well in fact it’s so that YOU yourself know your desires too, because sometimes we need a little clarity on that matter as well. The bible says that God will give you the desires of your heart and to do this you, He, the universe and all need to know what those goals and desires are. Once they are known then the process of them becoming things can begin. It’s just logical, isn’t it? Until you know what you want you won’t be able to get it.

I am a firm believer that thoughts do indeed become things and the many goals that are reached by people around the world and throughout history are testimony to that fact. Everything that you see did not exist until someone thought of it and now it is. If you are now looking at a tree and thinking nobody made a tree, well in fact the bible says God just spoke and there was life. And to speak you have to think – so he thought, spoke and there it was. So yes in fact the entire universe started with a thought. So thoughts do become things.

The Law of Attraction which is spoken of in the book and movie; “The Secret” and also in many other places is a real law, although as I mentioned in my book I prefer to call it “The Law of Creation”. Hence the reason I have been quite insistent and in-depth about the “how to’s” of goal setting.

Goals are wonderful, pretty magical and very necessary things to have, but the truth is they are only one half of the story. They only cater for the conscious part of the brain. If you have read the previous articles you may remember that when I sat down to write my goals. The first goal that I wrote down, namely; “I want to live to be 104” actually came from my subconscious. While mentioning that, I pointed out that our conscious and subconscious do not always agree and in fact we often do not know what is going on in our sub-conscious. The thoughts that become things are more often the subconscious thoughts, so just having conscious goals is not fully going to do the trick.

So your question might be, “if I don’t know what’s going on in my subconscious how will I get my thoughts to become the things I want, instead of what I don’t want?”The bottom line is that there are many things or hindrances that we need to remove from our subconscious first. There are also techniques such as visualisation that we should be using to ‘program’ our minds to ensure that we attract/create what we want. Visualization is the technique of using your conscious mind to imprint your desires on your sub-conscious mind. Ultimately your consciousness is the greater power, as it can override subconscious choices once it becomes aware of them. But the question is how do you do that?

My book “Freeing Your Mind” goes into much depth about the things that we should remove from our subconscious mind, and in the next blog article I will give you a taste of those things that should be extricated. I will also follow on that with an article of what you should be putting into your mind so that you get what you want, including your goals, quicker.

For now I would like you to just grab hold of the idea that what you think, truly will come into realisation and try to build some of your own ideas around that and what it means to you. In the next few articles you might just be surprised to find that some of the smallest things and ones you may have even thought of as insignificant, would turn out to be the ones being the biggest hindrances keeping you from achieving your goals.

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe - Anatole France
