Girls who are sexually active and in the age group of 15 to 19 usually have partners of the same age or about 3 years older than them. Girls whose partners were older than them by at least 4 years or more consisted of about 25%. While those who became teenage mothers usually had partners who were at least 6 years older than them. Teenagers who had partners who were considerably older than them were usually consistently active sexually and did not use any kind of contraception. These girls were more likely to get caught with an unplanned pregnancy.
Teenagers who abstained from sex 94% of adolescents who abstained from sex claimed that they did so because they did not want an unwanted pregnancy and preferred to wait instead of going through this trauma. However, overall the rate of teenagers falling pregnant has dropped drastically over the last decade.
Relationships that pressurize to have sex Statistics on teenage pregnancies show that 33% of teenagers who indulge in sex are usually in relationships which get to be sexually active too fast and that most of the time they are pressurized into giving in to sex. More than half the teenagers who are sexually active also indulge in drugs and most of them claim that they get into these activities more so because they are under the influence of drugs. be it alcohol or drugs, there are still many teenagers who do not think about safe sex and end up in unwanted pregnancies. Most of these age group do not ever think of using contraceptives and there is a 90% chance of their ending up pregnant.
Teenagers need more information on sexual health Over half the teenagers who are indulging in sex say that they would like to have a lot more information on sexual health from health care providers instead of remaining ignorant on this topic. Only a handful of teenagers has approached health care providers to give them advice and tell them about the precautions that they should use in order to stay healthy and trouble free. Because of this lack of knowledge many of them not just have one unwanted pregnancy but get into another one barely a few years down the line. However, statistics now show that the number of teenage pregnancies have gone down and that this is why even the number living below the poverty line and of single parents has decreased. Adolescents and teenagers want to be aware of the dangers that they can face and the trouble that they could put themselves into and are looking for guidance from counselors and health care providers.
