Most of us have pearly white teeth when we were young. Our teeth is covered with enamel which a mineralized substance that protects our teeth. The enamel is very hard and is capable of protecting the teeth from the effects of chewing, changes in temperature, eating highly pigmented food, drinking staining liquids and acidic substances. But as we grow old, the enamel becomes worn down. Small cracks, visible or not, allow stains and debris to become deposited. This causes discoloration. To restore teeth’s white color, you need to doteeth whiteningprocedures. Here are some of them. - Regularly use whitening toothpaste. Real whitening toothpaste contains mild bleaching chemicals and finely ground abrasives. The bleaching ingredient is just mild to protect the user because as you brush your teeth you may ingest the chemicals. This mild level is beneficial in the sense that you can use it for a long time. Whitening toothpastes are good backups for other teeth whitening procedures.
- Consult your dentist for in-office whitening. A dentist or a trained professional applies the bleaching chemical to your teeth. It is done after some protection has been done on the gums.
- Ask your dentist for professionally dispensed take-home whitening kits. These kits use peroxide gel of lower concentration applied using a custom-fitted tray.
- Use whitening floss. It is like regular floss but with mild abrasives.
- Avoid food and drinks that leave stains. Drinks to avoid are coffee, tea and red wine. Examples of food to veer away from are carrots and cherries.
Unlike in the past whenteeth whiteningis done using dental surgery, there are now a lot of ways that you can do even at home to achieve whiter teeth.
