Having a disabled person in the house who cannot manage to climb up and down stairs may require either a change of their living space, or perhaps even a change of residence. Changing the living space may, in certain cases, be easier said than done. What if there is no downstairs bedroom, or perhaps there is but the common bathroom is on the landing or the upper floor? Changing residence can also be a tedious option, as the current residence may be mortgaged or there could be other reasons why moving house is not an option.

Now with easily installed home stair lift systems, the problems faced by suddenly having to cater for the impaired mobility of a household member have been eliminated. There are basically two types of home chair lift systems. One has a chair fitted on it on that a person can sit and travel up and down the stairs on, and the other has a stand on which a person can either stand or place a chair or a wheel chair. Most people opt for the home stair lift system that has a chair installed on it, as it is much safer for the person using it to sit and travel on it.

There are several advantages to a home stair lift system. The first and primary advantage is that it provides mobility to the person for whom it has been installed. Secondly, one does not need to change residences or prepare or construct an extra room or toilet downstairs for the impaired person. Another advantage is that it can be used to carry heavy loads upstairs, as most home stair lift systems can carry a minimum weight of 300 lbs with a maximum of up to 500 lbs, which makes them strong enough to transport any household items on. So the hassle of trying to carry a heavy table or mattress upstairs is eased. Another advantage is in case one is tired and doesn't have the strength to climb upstairs, one can ride up. Young children will make a game of taking rides on the lift and will come up with all sorts of games that they can play on it. Home stair lift systems are available in both AC and DC; the DC battery operated models are more expensive but they can be used during a power outage. A home stair lift system allows people to age with their homes and saves them the pain of having to give up their beloved surroundings as they grow older.

Also, modern day home stair lift systems are quite safe, so the chances of falling down stairs or accidentally slipping on stairs are virtually eliminated. A home stair lift system does not cost as much as one imagines, and are quite practical and can be installed within hours.

Elderly people and people who may suddenly become disabled due to an accident or disease do not have to give up their homes, thanks to home stair lift systems.
