If like me you snore then you are fully aware of the affect this can have on your loved ones, most nights I either wake up my wife or wake myself up by the volume of my snoring. I tend to snore mostly when I sleep on my back and when my mouth is open. Snoring can be great problem for many individuals, it can be harmful to your relationships by causing stress and irritability and it's also know to increase the risk of diabetes, heart disease and cause high blood pressure. %20man.jpg"

If you find you stop breathing while you sleep this may be a sign of sleep apnea which is a very serious condition. You should contact your doctor as soon as possible.

The following are ten natural ways which can help with your snoring.

1. When you sleep try to raise your head up slightly because if you lay too flat you can block your air passages which in turn may cause you to snore.

2. Sleep on your side, rather than your back. You may find that your automatically roll over on your back while you are asleep, if this is the case and you wear for example a T-shirt to sleep in, put something up the back of it, I use a couple of soft toys, this method stops me rolling over. You can also try sewing a tennis ball to the back of your T-shirt.

3. Smoking is recognized to have an effect on snoring as it makes it more difficult for you to breath. try stopping for a week to see if there is an improvement.

4. Try not to drink alcohol late at night before you go to bed. Alcohol is a relaxant and will cause the muscles in your throat to relax and collapse easily which can make snoring much worse.

5. Check with your doctor if any of the medications you are taking can have an effect on snoring. Sleeping pills and anti-histamines are known to promote snoring.

6. Avoid eating dairy products or chocolate before you sleep as they can produce a build up of mucus in the throat which can make snoring worse.

7. Inhaling steam before bed is known to open up the air passages.

8. Purchase a rhynil spray which is made from an entirely natural herb called Euphrasia Officinalis, it is designed to treat snoring of the 'palatal flutter' variety.

9. If you snore through your nose try nasal strips which are design to open up the nasal airways and help you breath more easily.

10. Does your mouth open when you snore? You can purchase specially designed chin strips which are used to keep your mouth closed while your sleep, thus limiting your snoring.

If none of these methods help is it advised that you speak with your doctor as your snoring may be a sign of a further underlying condition.
