The very first step to stop smoking is already been taken by you. If you are wondering how, by making the effort to read this itself is the first step you have taken towards your goal. Congrats! Now read on…

Believe it or not, a lot of grit and determination is required on your part to reach the decision to stop smoking, once you have reached, there is no looking back. Here are 4 easy steps that can help you overcome the addiction and stop the habit once and for all.

The first thing that you need to do is to analyze why you smoke and jot down a few reasons why you want to quit. Keep going over the reasons again and again until you can foresee your destination of achieving it. You can also tell your close friends and family members about the decision to quit and get their complete support. We do not want to scare you, but quitting can have its side-effects and that can also include anger outbursts, mood swings along with other general troubles. Hence a supportive set of people really helps you stop smoking.

The second step would be to get yourself to do it. Make sure you place your set of reasons for quitting at a place where you can see it almost all the time. This is a great way to motivate you and you will definitely think a dozen times before falling back into the grove again. Get yourself occupied with an activity that will not steer anywhere near smoking. You can take up dancing, head to the Gym or even move the grass on your lawn. Why? Because when you are busy with work your mind will definitely not wander anywhere near the stub again! However; just make sure that the activity you have chosen interests you otherwise you may end up from where you started.

The Third step is the real process to stop smoking. Many believe that by reducing your cigarettes to a lower count or by smoking on low nicotine smoke helps. It does not work, you will have to stop and stop right away. We agree that it is very difficult to quit smoking all at once but unless you try you are never going to give up. To help in reducing withdrawal symptoms, eat a healthy tit-bit like a salad or just a fruit, go for a walk or play with your pet. You can also try going to the local library and browse through some books and magazines where you can read about different dangers and even can read different success stories to help you get inspirations from those who left.

The fourth last step is all about maintaining the above and practicing it everyday. Remember that no matter what happens or how tempting it is to reach for a packet of smokes buy a bar of low-cal chocolate instead. It would make you feel good and make you forget all about smoking.
