According to Greek mythology, Cronus, trying to avoid a prophecy about loosing his throne to one of his sons, used to devour them as soon as they born. Fearing his son Zeus could have the same destiny, his mother Rhea hid him, and later he dethroned his father.

Cronus, in the classical tradition, symbolizes the time, and the image of time devouring its own children is quite suggestive nowadays. We live in a high-speed world where we are compelled to learn and produce more in less time. How to solve such complicated situation?

Knowing how to manage the time is an important skill for any professional and frequently defines how efficient he/she is. Several books have been written about the subject, some of them very good, but I believe the adoption of some simple habits would be quite helpful, generating excellent results:

  • Define goals and prioritize activities towards achieving these goals.
  • Identify the time enemies and neutralize them.
  • Start delegating tasks.
  • Minimize possibility of interruptions.
  • Optimize meetings and just make them when really necessary.
  • Say "NO" sometimes.

Certainly the results will not appear in a flash, after all, old habits are difficult to change and fighting against the father of the gods of Olympus could not be easy.

Each of us faces this war in the proportion of our responsibilities, but the point is to know that it’s not a lost battle. In this context, I like to understand Rhea as an icon for the organization, mother of the method, which is the only one capable to win this titanic battle against Cronus. So, let’s pray for his protection and let’s fight.

Perhaps we’ll never be crowned as a god of gods, but our lives will surely be less stressful and more productive.
