I know, jealousyis a very bad thing. Not since my first year in college, when my geeky friend managed to ensnare the hottest girl in college just because they shared a mutual love for ice cream (yeah, can you believe that?) have I ever felt the pangs of jealousy.

So, I find it surprising that the feeling is back. I am feelingJright now.

The reason:BLOG-ENVY.

Yeah, you could call this post thesour grapes of a sore loser! I am a new entrant into the blogspace, been close to 3 months since I made myvery forgettable debut:)

Though I have been blogging on & off, it's only recently that I have been blogging with a new found vigour & vitality. I have been going through blogs as much as writing my own, in the process, loving some & finding some downright, umm well, stupid..

However, there have been a few key learnings. When I entered into this space, I was a completebaba in the woods.Content is everything, I believed. Now, don't get mad at me,content is still king, but I learnt that thekingwould be nothing if he is not helped by his ownministry of promotion* (explained below)

Over time, I learnt that the blogworld is not much different from life. Remember how certain life truths were revealed to you that took your innocence away, forever?Like there is no real Santa Claus. Like your best friend now might not be your best friend tomorrow. Like you may not be ever successful. Or ever famous. Or ever loved. Or like life is not always fair.

Anyways, coming back to the point, theBLOG-ENVY.I discovered so called truths(but myths in reality) that are rattled off by every blogger, worth hisURL!

Here goes the list of topMYTHS:

1) Quality is everything:

Notnecessarilytrue! I can count on my ten fingers & still not be finished with the number of blogs floating around that are BAD but still are supposedly highly rated. Some facts about them that boggle my mind:

They have a huge number of followers (surprising); the followers care to comment (unbelievable) & some even care to rave & gush about the silly posts (ridiculous). Now, a blog having many followers does not necessarily mean they are intelligent followers or sensible ones. The stupid always beat the intelligent in number, so no guesses there!

As if this is not enough, to add salt to my wounds, their blog is handsomely rewarded byGoogle& blog forums. And they flaunt these ranks, making me very very green. Now let me mention here that most blogs at the top are deserving enough.I am talking about the few that aren't.

2) I blog because I love writing & I don't write to impress:

Now whoever says this, is either lying through his teeth or a new entrant into blogging or just given up on trying to get his blog promoted. While blogging, you do write to impress..If they comment, well & good, if they do a follow, then fantastic!

3) The best bloggers are those who write 'original'

Not true again. Quite a few also do aCntrl C + Cntrl Vfrom other sources and pass it off as their own. Who is to realize & make the difference? E.g. How would you know whether this post is original or not? {just kidding, don't get thinking too much :)}

Now the list ofTRUTHSI have discovered  the hard way:

1)Ministry of promotion*:Get HTML experts, spice up your blog, have a sleek template/layout, get attractive widgets, list your blog on directories, drill some ad sense into them & so on..nthing wrong with these techniques, but then where is content in all this? Nowhere.

2)Use key words & get your blog reviewed in forums: So, even at the cost of possible critical feedback by some fool claiming to be God's gift to Blogkind, get it reviewed. Purely, because, it will at least pull the attention of the other guys in the forum..and maybe they willhit on you:)

So, that, in a nutshell, is what they don't teach you at Blog School, my friend. And once you put all the above into practice, it will be like the tagline of the old Onida Ad:Blogger's Envy, Owner's Pride :)

As for me & the future of my blog, who cares?
