Melanoma skin cancer, can be a killer if it is not caught early enough.

If caught in its early stages it can be cut out, but once it spreads through the body, there is no real weapon to fight melanoma skin cancer. So you need to be careful and watch for any changes to your skin.

We are all told by the media to watch for moles that change or grow or odd looking new moles. We are taught by the media that we need to wear our sunscreen and to check each others skin for these changes at least once a month. We are taught to be careful in the sun and wear a hat.

But any skin changes should be monitored. Not only moles, but cuts and patches of skin that just don't look right. My brother had a very thin cut on his thigh. He said it felt like a paper cut, and yet it just wouldn't heal. He never had one mole on his body, but he did get burnt a lot in the sun as a child.

He was well aware of sunscreen and used it all the time, but like most of us, thought moles were the only problem to watch for. He found out too late that he had melanoma skin cancer.

The only reason he went to a doctor was because it finally annoyed him enough as it was not healing and he thought he might need some antibiotics. The doctor took a swab and was looking for a type of infection to treat, but he was just as surprised as my brother to find it was melanoma.

So, you need to watch your skin. If there are ANY changes then you need to get them checked now. Even a cut that doesn't quite heal could be a simple infection like my brother thought or it could be melanoma. If he had done something about it right away, he might still be here. So, don't ignore anything that is not right on your skin. If something doesn't heal after a few days, get it checked out. Don't take chances with your skin or your life.
