Immediately after your breast augmentation , you will likely be wearing your recovery bra for a few weeks. Although comfortable and important for getting the best recovery, it is not exactly flattering, and you are probably looking forward to shopping for new bras that can really show off your results. When you head out to the lingerie store to get your new bras, here are a few of the main types you should consider.

Practical, Everyday Bra

After your breast augmentation, you may be tempted to go without a bra, but resist that temptation. Although breast implants do give your breasts some support, you still want to wear a bra to protect the longevity of your results. Going without a bra can lead to an earlier need for revision surgery. So, the first thing you need is a comfortable, well-fitting everyday bra, and three or more of them so you can rotate. Go here for some fitting advice for bras after breast augmentation.

Minimizer Bra

Most days, you will love the fullness of your new bust, but some days and some outfits will call for a little less. Blouses and shirts can often look stretched or become gappy at the front if you have large breasts, so some days you might want to make yours look a little smaller with this bra that redistributes the breast tissue so it reduces their projection.

Sports Bra

The sports bra is essential if you are working out at all. Gravity is hard on breasts, but exercise is even more so. Although a compression bra may have been fine before your surgery, you will now probably want a more natural-shaped supporting bra. Combining an underwire, a racer back, and the right material will give you the best support. Also, be sure to replace your sports bra on a regular basis.

Convertible Bra

This bra is an excellent addition to your wardrobe for a variety of outfits that need different strap configurations, including strapless. This is the last necessity in your bra wardrobe, strictly speaking, but you don't want to stop with just the bare necessities, do you? If not, consider some of these other options.

"Debut"

Bra If you have a husband or boyfriend, chances are he's found it hard to wait the four weeks or so before you are able to have sex again. Why not give him a special treat for the first time you are showing him the results? A shelf bra would be a huge--and probably very welcome--surprise. If you're not willing to go that far, a demi bra also makes a nice bra for showing off your results.

If you don't have a husband or boyfriend, but are still looking forward to wearing something with a plunging neckline to show off your results, look at plunge bras designed to let you show off as much cleavage as you desire.

Lacy Bras

Nothing says "feminine" like lace. Even if you never show it, wearing a lacy bra can help you feel prettier and more feminine on days you might not feel it.

Push-Up Bras

Your breasts are a lot fuller now than they were before your breast augmentation surgery, so you won't have to go to the push-up as much as you used to. But sometimes you might still want a little extra, and it's good to have a push-up for those occasions. Be careful, though. Too much push-up can cause your breast implants to show, especially if your implants are just under the breast tissue and not under the muscle.
