Recently, my oldest brother got married and having lived on his own for many years, he had pretty much everything he needed and then some. I was stumped…I love giving gifts, especially meaningful, useful gifts that people really appreciate. So being this kind of person, I had to come up with the perfect gift.
He and his fiancé spent most of their time outdoors and whatever time was left, hanging out with friends and traveling. Every time I would ask what they would like for their wedding, he would tell me he didn’t want anything artsy or decoration for their condo (which was 90% of all my ideas) and like I said, he had pretty much everything else he needed.
After a couple weeks of being stressed about this, I stumbled upon a very creative website that showed off these ‘realistic’ photo products - pillows, bedding, and photo blankets. The blankets were not afghans, but warm comfy, photo-real blankets. That’s when it hit me. The wedding invitations had been full of pictures of the two of them, showing off their favorite things and advertising the weekend wedding celebration. Why not give them not only a beautiful gift that they can use…but a reminder of the all memories they have together. It was perfect, both a practical gift and one that I can design and use my creative skills.
So I got to work putting together a collage of photos with the two of them, all in black and white, some of them rock climbing and hiking, and others of Yosemite, the place where they had met. When the time came to present them with my gift, needless to say, they loved it! Everyone was amazed at the crystal clear photos on the blanket, and the priceless photos of their smiling faces full of love. It truly was the perfect gift…and after much questioning and many requests, I know exactly what to get everyone for Christmas!
