When you set aside time to yourself without any distractions you will grow emotionally stronger. Building emotional strength is important so you can deal easily and calmly with all life throws at you. If you are emotionally fragile, you will crumble under the pressures of daily living.
Time to yourself is such a rare thing. Not many people invest time for the sole purpose of being alone. So much can come out of it if you do. And once you get into the habit of being alone regularly you will come to realize its power in your life and will start to crave this time alone more frequently.
You don’t have to meditate in the lotus position to be alone. You could set aside some time just to potter around your bedroom, paint your toenails or do some gardening. Whatever takes your fancy that is not strenuous or mentally taxing.
Being idle is what is important here. Make at least one hour each week just for you. No matter how hectic your schedule is, just give yourself one hour. Everyone can find one hour. This short time for yourself, really will work wonders in your life.
And the more calm and peaceful you feel, the more you will want to allocate time to yourself. When you build up your emotional strength this will ripple out and impact every area of your life. Your relationships with everyone will improve, your work-load will seem easier to tackle at work and you will feel emotionally strong.
You won’t feel so defensive and agitated with others. You won’t feel so hurried and frantic. And you won’t feel like a bundle of nerves that is about to burst when something or someone provokes you.
Instead you will feel poised and in control. You will feel more flexible and accepting. And you will feel more loving and compassionate towards every person you meet.
The power of being alone should not be under-estimated. Think of the 10 most “together” people you know. Find out what they do to be so calm and in control. Incorporate the things they do into your own life. Time alone is one way but there are many others. Find out from those who are already there and copy them.
You have nothing to risk or lose when you make the effort to take time out. Regular time alone is all it takes to build up a reservoir of emotional strength. And once it is built up you have everything to gain.
