17 years before, in a small village in India, Guna a boy, who was 7 years old at that time, happened to attend a religious ceremony. In that ceremony some yogis have participated and they have given their blessings to the villagers. The school kids and young men of that village greatly admired the yogis for thinking that they have great powers.
This 7 year old boy, Guna, was very much eager to meet one of the yogis and wanted to learn a mantra from him. But he was not able to meet any of the yogis, before they left the village. He got disappointed. He was very fanciful about the mantras and the super natural powers of the yogis, which he read in the Mahabharatha and Ramayana, the epics of India. He was visualizing himself having such powers and enjoying with them.
After two days, he met Hrishi, his neighbor, who is 3 years elder to him and talked about his plans in vain, to get Mantra from the yogis. Hrishi was also having similar desires and fantasies and he told Guna ‘I met a yogi that day and prayed him to teach me some mantras. He was a very good swami and he had given me a notebook, which has powerful mantras. I am chanting some mantras and they are very powerful’.
Guna was surprised and elated as he got what he wanted. He begged Hrishi to give all those mantras to him. Hrishi agreed and the next day they met in a secret place. Guna had written down all the matras and learned how to chant them. He was extremely happy as he got more than what he wanted. He got mantras from Hrishi for everything: education, influencing nature, affect an incident and etc.
There was not a single doubt about those mantras in Guna’s mind. He strongly believed that they were real and very powerful. He took some of his fanciful mantras and started chanting them in secret. He believed he got the power.
After two days he went to a small forest which is very near to his village. He was very confident and fearless with his new powers. He has seen a tree whose branch was across the road. He got a thought to cut this branch as it is across the road, though it is not disturbing the passage. He got a flash to use his new gained powers.
He has formed anintentionin his mind to cut the branch. He chanted the mantra that influences the nature. He looked at the branch, chanted the mantra and intended that it will be fallen. There was no doubt in his mind about the power of the mantra. As he was focusing his intention on the branch, there started a wind. In seconds it turned to be so strong and it has shaken the trees in the surroundings. That wind had blown that branch out of the tree. It was cut and fallen down.
There are no bounds to the happiness of Guna as he had done this using his powers. His confidence on his mantras grew like anything. Soon he found that he is able to do so many things including control people with his mantras. If he intends and chants a mantra that so and so should happen to so and so person, it happens. If he intends and chants a mantra to break trees, catch fish or win a game in a dramatic way then that happens. Mention not that he would be very happy with all these powers.
But time has come for him to lose these new powers. The matter had passed to his classmates that he got mantras from Hrishi. They started asking Guna about this and he denied all those things. His classmates made so many skeptical comments on the mantras and their true existence. Nothing had shaken Guna and his confidence about his powers. But one day, he went to Hrishi’s home to talk to him about his new powers and the comments of his classmates. At that time he happened to listen to the conversation between Hrishi and his sister.
Sister: “Is it true that you have given some mantras to Guna?”
Hrishi: “Yes”
Sister: “How do you get them? Are they true mantras?”
Hrishi: “They are not true mantras. I have created them by my own out of curiosity. I have never met any of those yogis. I have given them to Guna. Poor fellow he thinks they are real mantras.”
As he listened to this, Guna returned home. He lost thebeliefin his mantras. Until then the base for his powers was his belief in the mantras he got from Hrishi. As that turned out that what he has are fake mantras, he no more believed that they work. In place of confidence and trust, skepticism came in his mind about the mantras and their powers.

Poor Guna, for he didn’t question himself how he was so successful before with the mantras. How he was able to do such things. If he did, he would have stumbled upon the inherent power in his mind. He would have known that he could such things even without mantras. He would have that dormant power from the day he was born to the day he will die.
At the age of 7, everybody will have a focused mind, because there won’t be any distractions. At that age, strong beliefs can be easily formed. These two things: Strong belief or faith and a focused mind enabled Guna to do such marvelous things.
The power that came to Guna was not because of the mantras, but because of his faith in them and his focused mind; for focused mind is more powerful than anything else in the world.
