Every Doctor that you may encounter during pregnancy will try to urge you to breastfeed. Some mothers will venture into this breastfeeding with out knowing the real deal. This article's purpose is to let you in on the real deal of breastfeeding it is no easy task.

Breastfeeding has many benifits for both baby and mom. These benifits will lure you in. It benifits the mom and baby by promoting that loving bond. It lowers mom risk for certain cancers. It has been said to even rise your childs I.Q.

The thing that makes breastfeeding so difficult for first time moms is inproper latching. If the baby is not latched on properly the mother will be in a world of pain. Some advise to properly latch your baby on to your breast, would be to make sure when you start the first feeding that the baby and mom are currectly positioned. You can read books about different positions the best position is the one you and your baby find comfortable so try a few different positions. Let the baby open his or her mouth wide like a bass fish. You want the baby's mouth to cover as much of your areola as possible. The more the areola is covered the less likely you will be in pain. Nurse on each breast your baby will let you know when they are ready to stop please do not give the baby a time limit to eat. Some people suggest 10 to 15 minutes on each breast I suggest to listen to your baby's que's as to when he or she is done eating. A satisified baby will burb between switching breast. A satisfied baby will fall asleep when they have had enough to eat.

Care for your breast in between feeding remember this is your baby food supply. With that said wash your hands before feeding your baby. Only use water to cleanse your breast and pat dry. Your Doctor will recomend that you breastfeed for at least a year. Realistically if you are like the majority of the moms that I know who have a life outside of breastfeeding you know that is not always possible. Just remember even if you breastfeed for just one day give your self a gold star because you were able to give your child the best.

To conclude this short article on the real deal of breastfeeding just remember these few things. Try to latch your baby on properly, wash your hands before feeding, and remember your giving you baby the best. Good luck with your breastfeeding.
