Scalp reduction for baldness treatment is one of the more modern treatments today. For a more or less permanent solution, this treatment may be done and there will be no evidence of baldness. This is a rather attractive way to solve your problems of hair loss. Before you go under the knife, it is advisable to find the right surgeon who will do a proper job on your scalp.

Scalp reduction entails having to undergo surgery. The bald spots are cut out and the skin is pulled and stitched together. The bald spots contain hair follicles that are no longer producing new hair. This could be due a variety of conditions that lead to hair loss. The most common one occurs in men and is called male pattern baldness. When the bald spots have been rid off, there should be no other spot that is affected. A good surgeon will make your scalp look as natural as possible.

How can you find a good surgeon when there are so many that offer the service? The internet can give you a list of surgeons that have been rated according to their successes on scalp reduction. You can do background research on the doctors through their patients. Most forums have people who have undergone the surgical procedure and will give reviews on doctors. Knowing that the doctor has successfully done the procedure without any hassles will give you a peace of mind.

The next step is to visit the surgeon you have chosen in order to talk to him about scalp reduction. He should be able to give you useful information on how the procedure is conducted, if there are side effects as well as the right candidate for the surgery. This type of treatment can't be done on anyone. The best candidates are men who have male pattern baldness or hair loss due to heredity and hormones, which is mostly at the front or on top of the scalp. Success rate has been reported to be low on people whose hair loss is due to nutritional problems, stress or who are undergoing medications like chemotherapy. People with Aids can't have the surgery done, as it may lead to infections and a lowering of the immune system.

The doctor should be able to tell you about the recovery period and when you can expect hair growth. Surgery may take up to 4 hours and the patient is an outpatient. There should be no need for a stay in the hospital or clinic. The head is bandaged for about 2 weeks after which it is removed. Painkillers should be prescribed to reduce the pain, antibiotics for prevention of infections and anti-inflammatories for swelling.

Tests have to be conducted to see whether you are a good candidate. Strands of your hair can be taken or a biopsy can be done. Skin reduction is often done in conjunction with either hair transplantation or a skin flap. You should be given all this information. All this will help you find the right surgeon.
