The tongue is a gift from Allah:

Among Allah's blessings upon man is that He made him a thoughtful and a sensible being and created a tongue for him to communicate with the others. He made him able to utter sounds and explain what he desires through the words which he speaks. He has only to speak to let people know what he needs.

Thus, we should thank Allah for the blessings which He bestowed upon us. We should use our speech in valuable ways; not to speak but goodness. For example, if we are in a meeting and want to speak with people, or any discussion comes up then we should first think what we want to say and choose which words to use. If we can offer useful advice to people or offer information, we should speak in such a way to make others want to listen.

"Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? And a tongue, and a pair of lips? "

(Surah 90:8-9)

One of Allah' signs is the variations of human tongues.

"And among His Signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the variations in your tongues (languages) and your colors; verily in that are Signs for those who know".

(Surah 30:22)

The last Prophet Mohammad says:

"Blessed is the man who speaks truth and good and is triumphant; or keeps silent in the face of evil and is secure".

Also, He says:

"When you talks, say good or keep silent"

If you follow these teachings, your words will be acceptable to Allah and the people because your speech is helpful in guiding towards goodness or reconciling people, or teaching useful knowledge, and will increase the love of people to each other.

If we say a word of goodness we will get Allah's reward and the love and respect of the people.

As our Prophet Mohammad says:

"If man is not able to say something useful, he should keep silent from bad words and his silence will keep him far from Allah's wrath and from the harm which might befall him as a result of saying bad words".

Whoever does evil deeds to people, people will surely confront him with evil too. And certainly, if you speak bad words it may cause you problems and harm and make you regret and wish you had kept silent and had not spoken.

Consequently, our Prophet Mohammad instructs us with good manners saying: Either you speak a useful and good word, or be silent which is better for you than speaking evil words.

Famous historical examples of good tongues:

The father of the Prophets "Abraham" as described in Surah 26 wished to have honorable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); and his wish did exactly happen.

[75] He said: "Do ye then see whom ye have been worshipping,

[76] "Ye and your fathers before you?

[77] "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds;

[78] "Who created me, and it is He Who guides me;

[79] "Who gives me food and drink,

[80] "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me;

[81] "Who will cause me to die, and then to live (again);

[82] "And Who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the Day of Judgment...

[83] "O my Lord! bestow wisdom on me, and join me with the righteous;

[84] "Grant me honorable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations);

This is because Abraham kept his tongue away from any bad word. Not only did Abraham but all the Prophets. Listen to the Quran which honors Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in Surah 19:

[49] When he had turned away from them and from those whom they worshipped besides Allah, We bestowed on him Isaac and Jacob, and each one of them We made a prophet.

[50] And We bestowed of Our Mercy on them, and We granted them noble honor on the tongue of truth.

Prophecy about the anti-Islam tongue:

There is a prophecy about the people who talk bad about Islam, Quran and the Prophet Mohammad:

"If they were to get the better of you, they would behave to you as enemies, and stretch forth their hands and their tongues against you for evil; and they desire that ye should reject the Truth". (Surah 60:2)

As we see today, this prophecy happens exactly as the Quran had declared it more than 1420 yeas ago.

For those people, it is recommended to read the Quran first before attacking the Islam. Otherwise, they will be responsible about their tongue at the Day of Judgment.

At that horrible day, a very amazing surprise is waiting for them.

Your tongue is your witness!

For more details read Surah 24 which says:

[24] On the Day when their tongues, their hands, and their feet will bear witness against them as to their actions.

[25] On that Day Allah will pay them back (all) their just dues, and they will realize that Allah is the (very) Truth, that makes all things manifest.

Remember that you have many witness for all of your acts, the first witness is your tongue then your hands then your feet.

Everything is well recorded with absolutely no errors.

To summarize:

The tongue (s) is mentioned 24 times in the Noble Quran.

Your tongue has Rights, keep it away from any evil word.

Among the best characteristics of a Muslim is to speak only the words of goodness and truth.

It is better to remain silent if you cannot speak the word of goodness.

Whoever does not keep a check on his tongue will be sorry in the afterlife.

Your tongue has Rights, keep it away from any evil word; otherwise, your tongue will be your witness in the afterlife.
