Binge drinking isn't just for college students. In fact, statistics show that 70% of all binge drinkers are over the age of 25, and that 75% of the alcohol consumed by adults is in this form. But that's not the worst: if you're a binge drinker, you are 14 times more likely to drive intoxicated. And we all know where that leads: more than 10,000 fatalities due to drunk driving occur annually in the United States alone. And most of the time, it's not the culpable driver who dies, but the innocent bystanders. Many things in life are reversible- death, unfortunately, is not among them.
But enough with statistics. The point is that if you find yourself taking part in the addictive pattern described above, you are posing a real threat to yourself and those around you. It's just not a sustainable way to live. Of course, you already know that- so what's holding you back? Is it the embarrassment or distaste of joining an AA 12-step program? Or the cost in time and money of stepping into a rehab facility?
