Behind every story there is a person who helped form it. The man behind Safehouse Outreach is Philip Bray, who began his work in 1982. Inspired by the experiences he has lived, this man set out to reach those whom everybody else thought were lost. With faith, perseverance and kindness, this man stated one of the most important changes in Atlanta.

Safehouse Outreach is not about handouts, but about helping people start a new life and get rid of all bad habits. Starting with childhood years, we are taught to help others, to be role- models and to offer our support to those in need. However, there are places and people who consider that some are beyond reach and they cannot be helped anymore. Safehouse Outreach does not believe this and this safehouse is for all people, no matter how unreachable they are though to be. This is exactly why Bray started the safehouse in the first place.

In the beginning, a local restaurant was the headquarters of this safehouse and it only worked two nights a week. However, in less than six months, Safehouse Outreach has expanded, gained volunteers, received donations and today it is one of the most highly thought of projects in the world. The thing that made the difference was the way this safehouse handled the situation. Most similar projects go no further than giving people a place to sleep overnight and a hot meal, whereas Safehouse Outreach set out to solve problems and help unfortunate people straighten up their lives, not just receive a meal.

This safehouse is mainly based on donations and volunteering, but it also has skilled staff members equipped and trained to deal with numerous situations. Safehouse Outreach has many programs destined to help the unfortunate ones. For example, there is the problem-solving department that is prepared to solve all kinds of problems. Whatever the problem is, they can solve it. This safehouse also offers medical services and medicine to poor people, all in hopes of helping them choose the right path in life. Assistance with unexpected pregnancies, parenting classes, job skill training and soul sessions are just some of the programs that this Atlanta safehouse has to offer.

It only took one person to make a significant change, but it takes many more to finish what this person has started. Therefore, I have to say that the story behind Safehouse Outreach is far from being over. The purpose of this safehouse is to help the poor and those who supposedly cannot be helped, but unfortunately not all want to be helped. The effort of the people working at a safehouse is not in vain because thousands of lives have been changed thanks to them, but the work will never stop. There are always people who will refuse help and there are always going to be people in need of help. The work in a safehouse is never going to stop and that is why volunteering is a big part of such a project.
