Let me tell you a quick story. The secret to beautiful clear skin is natural. You should never put anything on your face or body that you would not put in your mouth, period. You should eat natural nutrient-rich foods, not the junk that passes for "food" these days. You should drink lots of pure water and avoid the sodas. And, you should nourish your skin's cells, 24 hours a day.

Did you know that 79-95% of the adolescent population in Western societies have acne? Did you know that 40-54% of men and women over the age of 25 have it and that it sometimes persists into middle age? Did you know that researchers have examined populations in non-westernized societies found in Papua, New Guinea and Paraguay finding zero cases of acne in any age group?

There has to be an explanation. Researchers have noted that these populations have a diet that has a "low glycemic index" and they consume no milk or other dairy products. Three studies have found an association between acne and consuming partially skimmed milk, instant breakfast drinks, sherbet, cottage cheese and cream cheese. The theory is that it is the hormones found in these products that contribute to inflammation of the sebaceous glands and blemishes.

In the past, it has been suggested that milk is good for beautiful clear skin, but the important nutrient in milk is calcium. Calcium is also present in many vegetables. Wakame kelp is a particularly rich source of calcium and other minerals.

Researchers have shown that topically applied creams containing wakame kelp prevent lower levels of hyaluronic acid, which is often found in the elderly. Hyaluronic acid is like glue that holds the skin's cells together, making it tight and firm.

When you look at pictures of beautiful clear skin, the pores are small, not enlarged. The skin's layers are smooth and firm. You see no bumps or blemishes. Cosmetics can hide some of these things, but not all of them.

Of course wrinkles are another thing that most of us would like to avoid. It's never too early or too late to begin using nourishing creams that support your skin's health and prevent the appearance of wrinkles. The primary cause of wrinkles is free radical damage, according to reports recently released by a large group of dermatologists.

Free radicals are tiny molecules and they start working against beautiful clear skin from the day we are born. Free radicals are naturally present within the skin's cells, but their numbers and activity increase when we are exposed to pollution and UV rays from the sun. I'm sure that the people in New Guinea and Paraguay are exposed to the sun, but they aren't exposed to pollution.

Make no mistake about it. Free radicals perform some necessary functions, like killing bacteria, which is beneficial when it comes to reducing pimples. But, in order to prevent them from doing damage to the skin's cells, antioxidants must be present to neutralize them. One of the keys for beautiful clear skin is an antioxidant-rich cream, shop with care. They aren't all alike.
