Surgical face lifts used to be the most commonly known procedures for fighting aging. This procedure involves incisions made on the skin near the hairline, and then the facial muscles and skin are tightened before suturing. Anesthesia is needed for this anti aging treatment. However, with the development of newer anti aging treatments surgical face lifts are now replaced bynon surgical face lift procedures such as Thermage, which is non-invasive and totally safe. The use of Thermage as an anti aging skin care treatment has been approved by FDA in 2002. Non surgical face lifttakes less time compared to surgery, and because it does not involve scalpels or stitches, no recovery time is required after the treatment. Patients can immediately resume work or other activities after undergoing a Thermage procedure. What is involved in the Thermage process? First, the skin is cleansed to free it from oils and dirt. Then a special device called a Thermatip, delivers capacitive radiofrequency (CRF) into the deeper layers of the skin, or the dermis. This CRF helps to heat the collagen layers beneath the skin, helping them to become tighter, and thus helping the outermost layer of the skin to smoothen and tighten as well. The Thermatip is passed onto the skin surface, so it cools the skin it touches and heats the layers beneath it. The mild discomfort felt during the Thermage treatment is the alternate heating and cooling in certain areas of the skin. Thermage process can take less than half an hour to as much as two hours, depending on the amount of skin areas to be treated. The average cost of Thermage is around $2,000. Side effects of Thermage are mild blistering, bumps, or redness on the areas treated. Comparing with micro dermabrasion, results of Thermage can be seen after only one session. Immediately after the procedure, a patient will feel her skin tighter and will achieve a more youthful looking glow. So in the long run, Thermage is relatively cheaper than other non surgical procedures for anti aging.
