Alcoholism is a condition arises due to continuous consumption of alcohol. Nowadays it is becoming a serious problem. It may lead to life threatening side effects and sometimes even to death. In medical terms, alcoholism is a disease which results due to the negative effects of alcohol. The quantity and frequency of alcohol consumption will vary from person to person in order to develop alcoholism. Causes of alcoholism are as follows;
The exact cause of alcoholism is not yet defined. However, it is discovered now that genetic reasons may lead to alcoholism. The children of alcoholic parent will have the risk of developing the alcoholic disorder. Males are more prone to this disease rather than women. In some cases, social factors like influence of the family, peers and availability of alcohol will lead to alcohol addiction. Sometimes psychological factors like stress and emotional problems will lead to alcohol abuse. If the parents have the habit of drinking while they feel stress, then their children will take this wrong example and will start drinking when they too experience stressful situations. Symptoms of alcoholism are as follows;
People who have serious drinking problem will show some symptoms. Such people will have the habit of drinking alone or in secret. Severe addiction will lead the person to forget about his\her commitment or promise. The drinker will lose interest in hobbies which will usually give him\her pleasure. Compulsive drinking is a clear symptom of alcoholism. Such people will feel irritated when the family members or friends pass any comments on their drinking habit. These people will keep the alcohol in some secret places at home or at work place. They will start getting some legal and financial problems. They may get problem in work place and family relationship also. These people will also show some withdrawal symptoms like nausea, shakiness and sweating.
Alcoholism will show some physical symptoms also. The affected person will lose his control. The dysfunction of various parts of organs will also happen. Since the frequent alcohol consumption will damage the cells and will restrain the growth of new cells, the condition of the serious drinking will become worse.
Severe alcoholic consumption will also lead to liver problems. The person may experience indigestion problems. He\she will eat little or will neglect food. The ability of body to resist diseases will gradually decrease and vanish in a stage. This stage of alcoholism is horrible. Impaired vision and loss of mental alertness will also occur. The sufferer will face severe health problems and death will be the final outcome of final stage alcoholism.
Treatment to alcoholism in early stage is possible provide the drinker is willing to quit the drinking habit. Counseling will be enough for a early stage drinker. Some medicines are also available that will help the drinker to stop the intention to drink. However will power is also essential. The person can completely get rid of this problem if his\her family members are cooperative. But it is impossible to treat end stage alcoholism. In fact death will be the only possible result of final stage alcoholism. Therefore the drinker first determine at what stage he\she is at present and should take steps to quit the severe drinking habit.
