Does it ever feel like you are running against time? Well if you do feel this way, “welcome to the club” as they say! Due to the amount of information that we receive constantly everyday it is almost impossible for a “regular” human being to keep up. Inundated with information and unable to filter it the correct way it is normal that sometimes we fall behind. Our e-mail boxes and agendas look more like a coloring book because we think that highlighting different events with diverse colors will facilitate our lives. How to improve your time management and get you a bit organized?

Here are some tips that can help you:

1) Prioritize. Make sure to make a list of every that needs to be done. Once the list is finished go through it one more time and highlight the items that are urgent and that need your attention right away. The other categories for your entries will be: now (which implies that it will be done in the next 2 days) and soon ( which implies that it will be done by the end of the week)

2) Once you have your prioritized list get to work and make sure you check off the items from you list. It will provide you great satisfaction looking at the list every time you remove something from it.

3) The list is way to get you started but it will always be a work in progress. Make sure to go through the different sections (urgent, now and soon) and don’t be afraid to change some items from section. If the item you were supposed to do at the end of the week was not done it will most likely become an “urgent” item very soon.

4) When making your list some people prefer using the old pen and paper way. However, if you are part of those who like technology take advantage of the different tools that are available such as the agenda in the “Outlook” program, your cell phone agenda or applications that you can buy to facilitate the task

One thing that you have to remember is to keep going, even on those days where it seems like you will never finish or accomplish anything, don’t forget “Rome was not built in one day”. There are many ways to keep yourself going, remain focus on your task and don’t worry about the fact that you might not be on top of everything, as long as you are achieving what you want.
