High blood pressure is a dreaded disease which catches a person unaware since there are no symptoms to help the person identify he has the said sickness. This is caused by unhealthy food intake, cigarette smoking, drinking alcoholic beverages, the use of prohibited drugs and the lack of exercise. Here are some tips to lower high blood pressure.

Limit sodium intake
With more sodium in the body, there is an increase in the blood volume and blood pressure. In effect, this can affect the normal functioning of the heart. Sodium is normally found in salty foods.
Avoid Caffeine
Since caffeine is a stimulant, it causes the heart to beat faster and blood pressure can easily rise. Avoidance of caffeine is highly recommended if a person is engaged in physical activity or exercise, weight lifting or physical labor.

Lose Weight
An overweight person is more at risk to hypertension. Being in this condition, the heart fails to work normally. The only remedy is to lose weight by engaging in a proper diet and regular exercise.
Stop Smoking
Cigarette smoking is dangerous to our health because cigarettes contain nicotine which causes high blood pressure. Consider to quit smoking. This does not only lowers high blood pressure but will make a healthy heart. Since quitting smoking is a difficult task to do, patience and persistence are needed to attain the desired results.
Limit Alcohol Intake

Like smoking, excessive intake of alcoholic beverages can also cause high blood pressure. Hence, totally avoiding or limiting alcohol is good for the body as well as the heart.
Avoid Prohibited Drugs
Addiction to prohibited drugs is harmful to one's health since this can also cause high blood pressure. Counseling by the family or expert is required to help the addicted person return to a normal condition. If you are using these prohibited drugs, it is advisable to put a stop on it right away.
Regular Exercise
A person who is physically active is at a lesser risk of having high blood pressure. Regular exercise includes walking, jogging, bicycling and other sports and physical activities.

Stress can increase blood pressure. This can be relieved by meditation, deep breathing, yoga, listening to relaxing music and taking a hot bath. These activities can make a person healthy and cheerful.

Diet Change
If used to unhealthy food, change your diet to maintain a healthy body and heart at the same time. The DASH or Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension is advisable and this includes grains, seeds, fruits, vegetables, lean meat, low fat or non-fat dairy products, fish, poultry, fats oils, dry and beans.

Natural Remedies
Natural remedies to lower high blood pressure include coenzyme Q10, fish oils, folic acid, and olive oil. A doctor's prescription is still needed if the blood pressure stays in the high level despite using these methods.
These natural treatments are better if combined with medicinal.. Following these tips could lead you to a proper blood pressure level.
