If you have been trying to conceive for more than a few months, you may be feeling a little anxious and be looking for tips to becoming pregnant naturally. Many of us focus on what we should be doing and take proactive steps to "do everything right", overlooking what we should be avoiding or stopping in order to help conception along.

Most of us know how important our diet is when trying to conceive and with all the advice out there, many of us know what the components of a healthy diet are and might try to include certain healthy elements. Fewer of us though look at what to avoid and it is surprising just what an effect a few simple changes can have.

Firstly, lets look at exercise. We all know that taking exercise is good for us. As far as becoming pregnant is concerned, striking the right balance is crucial. Taking too little exercise can make our body systems sluggish and not working as efficiently as they could. Conversely, over-exercising can be very detrimental, as it can cause the body to "switch off" ovulation. This is why many female athletes find that their periods stop, as the body tries to conserve energy. Moderate exercise is the way to go, with around half an hour of brisk walking each day being about right.

The effects of smoking are well-documented on a developing fetus, but did you realize that smoking can adversely affect your chances becoming pregnant. Both sperm from the male and ovulation in the woman are affected and so stopping before you even try to conceive is essential.

Other tips to becoming pregnant naturally revolve around alcohol intake and drug use. Although some experts will say that a couple of alcoholic drinks now and again will not do any harm, there is much anecdotal evidence to say that if both parties stop drinking, then pregnancy is more likely to happen. I often refer to a recent case of a famous UK DJ and her husband. They had been trying for another baby for 7 years and within months of them both stopping drinking, she became pregnant.

They had already explored other options and she wholly puts her pregnancy down to this fact. (Indeed, she is now the proud mother to a baby girl, born in January). With regard to drugs, stopping taking illegal drugs is essential, but you should also look at any prescription or over the counter drugs which you take and maybe take advice from your pharmacist as to whether they will adversely affect your chances of getting pregnant.

We can also look at our diets and consider tips to becoming pregnant. Avoiding trans fats and eating healthy oils instead is a good tip. In addition, you should perhaps include a good all round vitamin supplement. You should also avoid refined carbohydrates, sticking to wholemeal products.

Despite researching and putting into practice tips to becoming pregnant naturally, some couples still do not conceive after several months.Rather than leaving matters completely to chance, it makes sense to implement a tried and tested method which is guaranteed to work.
