Some people struggle to fall asleep quickly . While some of us seem to cope well with lack of sleep. I do not. If I do not have my noraml number of hours sleep, I find it hard to cope with everday affairs.

I feel tired all day, and I have difficulty concentrating and focusing on the jobs I should be doing. Others I know can seemingly function normally. At times like this, you might think it is easy to fall asleep quickly, but that is not always the reality for many of us. Sleep can be very elusive sometimes.

The mind is always active. Many people have money worries, and are constantly aware of the possibility of losing their job, and joining the ranks of the unemployed. There are many problems and worries which gnaw away at us each day. It seems these thoughts wait until bedtime, and then they really start to plague us, and just will not go away.

Let me share with you one strategy I came across, which, when I first heard of it, I thought would never work. But I was wrong. What I did, and it might help you as well, if you have difficulty getting to sleep at night, was to go for a walk. You might be sceptical at this point.

The purpose of the walk is to clear the mind and think about what is happening around me, as I walk, in the here and now.

This is where the nagging thought processes become broken, and are replaced by calming thoughts. By using the senses of sight, smell and touch, I can engage with what I see, hear and am able to touch around me. I can listen to a bird singing, for instance. If I have a million things on my mind, I won't even know there is a bird there!
