Tonsil stones (also known as tonsilloliths) form from a variety of different reasons and it is not necessarily your fault. You also should know that tonsilloliths are quite common. You are not alone in your struggle against bad breath and tonsilloliths.
Tonsil stones are small cream-colored lumps, which form in the tonsils and eventually dislodge, where they are either coughed up or swallowed. If you squash them between your fingers they give off an awful smell a bit like rotten eggs. Bad breath is often linked with tonsillolith but does not necessarily mean this is always the case.
Do you have chronic bad breath? Is your throat sore even when you don’t have a cold or any other type of infection? Does it feel like you have something caught in the back of your throat that you just can’t quite cough up? If so, then you might be a victim of tonsil stones. Now that you know the issue — how does one set forth to remove tonsil stones? It is, after all, quite possible that you have never heard of them.
There are two different approaches you can take to get rid of tonsil stones. The first is doing the treatment yourself. If you do not a low tolerance for gagging, you may consider removing the white balls by yourself.
Tonsiloliths are smelly white balls in the back of your throat. Whatever you want to call it, tonsilolith can be a serious oral problem. Although technically tonsil stones -smelly disgusting off-white balls of food particles and other debris that get stuck to your tonsils- are not dangerous, they can be extremely annoying.
Tonsil stone removal is not an easy thing to do if you do not know what to do. But first, before we dwell deeper into what tonstil stone removal is all about, let’s find out more about the history behind tonsil stones. You will learn all about how our teeth works.
The development of a cough for no apparent reason may also be a sign that tonsilloliths are either on the way or are already present. Just like bad breath, most of us shrug off a cough as being something incidental. After all, a cough can be the result of getting a little dust into the back of the throat or some other minor irritation. However, as the tonsilloliths set up housekeeping in the back of our mouths, the coughing will become more persistent and sometimes get to the point of being hard to control.
The main focus of most of the lines of treatment is to dislodge the stones so that the body’s natural processes can then absorb and effectively destroy the tonsil stones without causing any damage to the tonsils proper. However, in advanced situations, it may be necessary to use some device to remove the stones from the tonsils and from the body altogether.
