Many people dismiss a treatment for pot addiction as frivolous as they believe that quitting pot should be easy as there is no chemical such as nicotine to form a physical addiction to the drug. This is a simplistic view however as pot addiction is as real as alcohol addiction, gambling addiction and many other addictions known as psychological addictions where the need is not a physical craving but an intense want that drives us back again and again to whatever activity or substance we feel stops these cravings. So To treat pot addiction you must understand pot addiction, only then can you act to wean yourself off marijuana and lead a life with a clear head and motivation for a better life.

Understand
To overcome a problem you must know the root causes of the problem. If you simply act against the surface problems or symptoms of an addiction you do not treat the underlying issues that lead to these symptoms of cravings and the like. To understand you must be brutally honest with yourself, you must ask why you started smoking, what keeps you smoking, what triggers your cravings and what high you get (apart from the chemically induced high) from taking the drug. Self analysis without lying to yourself is vitally important for the next step.

Plan
Once you believe you know the 'whys' of your addiction you must form a plan to counteract those root causes. Forget the symptoms of the cravings, don't just try to overcome the cravings for instance try to find a solution to the cause of that cravings. Have a plan to counter each craving trigger and the reasons for it. Your state of mind when you have a plan is much less prone to falling back to addictive habits.

Act
Once you have a countermeasure for your cravings you must then try to solve the very root cause or causes of your addiction. This may be wildly different from person to person but there is always a base cause that keeps you going back to smoking pot that needs to be addressed and without the solid base of the previous two points you may never be able to overcome this.

While this treatment for pot addiction sounds simplistic it can give you the structure of a cure that can lead you out of your problems and make you start to feel motivated and healthy again!
