As a young boy, every summer I’d watch my father construct a garden in our backyard. Though he desired that I learn alongside him, I was never that interested in gardening so I’d just watch him from the window. Now that I’m much older I understand that he wasn’t just trying to teach me how to plant a garden, he wanted to teach me how not to starve during life’s dry seasons. He was always very strategic in his planning.

Before he would even grab a shovel I’d see him walking around the yard, picking up debris that had fallen from surrounding trees or that had been carried in with the wind and settled in our yard. He’d then gather all the trash into a bag and set it to the side.

Through this analogy God showed me that before I can receive my full harvest, I have to remove those things that are going to prevent me from reaping. I once heard a preacher say that we need to stop trying to connect with people who don’t want to connect with us because it is purely a waste of our precious time and energy.  That statement alone, if applied, could be the very thing that propels many of us further and even closer to our destiny. God is trying to take us to a new land that has been designed specifically for us, and when we arrive there he wants us to be free of all unnecessary baggage.

Most of us are fully aware that Jesus came that we may have abundant life; still some of us have unknowingly taken a vow of poverty.

Some people are involved in relationships, whether personal or business, that are weighing them down emotionally as well as financially. Others are attending churches that aren’t spiritually satisfying but seem to have a hold on them through habits based on tradition not doctrine. No matter what the situation is, there’s something burning inside of you and that burning grows every time you think of where you should be and it causes you to feel uncomfortable where you are. You’re grounded when you know you should be flying but you have to consciously remove yourself from whatever is hindering you. Paul encourages us in Hebrews 12:1 that we are to lay aside every weight that overwhelms us.

At this present time you may feel like you aren’t strong enough to walk around you’re spiritual yard and eliminate the debris yourself, I assure you that there are others who can relate to that feeling including me. However, I have decided to humble myself to Gods will, as 1 Peter 5:6 says, and depend on him to take me to my next dimension of growth. Simply put, I had to remove the nouns. Removing the nouns simply means to liberate yourself from the people, places, and things that are hindering you from reaching your full potential in the Kingdom.
