Just because you're ill or injured and need a wheelchair, doesn't mean you're going to need a really nice one, or need one forever. A used wheelchair is cheaper than a new one, but people tend to take good care of them, so you may not be settling for a rickety or unsafe chair. If you're temporarily injured, or in need of an inexpensive wheelchair, a used wheelchair is a great option. Online marketplaces like Craigslist, eBay, and even Amazon, offer used wheelchairs. If you want to avoid shipping costs and hassles, Craigslist in your city may be the best choice. You can contact someone in your city or region, and usually drive over to pick it up or work out a delivery. Ebay and Amazon have used wheelchairs, but you'll incur a few more fees from shipping and handling. In addition, you'll usually have to wait for it to arrive. Online marketplaces are not the only place to find a used wheelchair. A lot of online vendors buy used wheelchairs as well and sell them at reduced prices. They may even be repaired or fixed up before being resold online. Make sure you inquire about the condition of the wheelchair before you purchase it, though. Sometimes the pictures provided by the online vendor will not match the actual condition of the wheelchair you are purchasing. Try contacting airports or hospitals to see if they are in the process of selling or getting rid of old wheelchairs. As they replace old ones, you may be able to pick up a used one from them for cheap. Just contact the hospital or airport before hand to make sure it's okay. In some cases, you may get it for free by saving them the disposal costs of it. Just call ahead to make sure.
