Weight loss is basically a function of eating less calories than you burn and so far there seems to be no magic pill that makes the pounds fall off while you can continue to eat as usual having chocolate cake, potato chips, French fries or sweets on a regular basis.

Use vitamins to burn more calories

Although you can't go against that universal law (eating less than your burn = weight loss), there is on the other side no reason why you then shouldn't use it to support your weight loss. Although there might be no pill that miraculously burns huge amounts of fat for you, there are supplements that give your metabolism a boost so that you will burn more calories. Why not use those?

Ensure your thyroid is working properly

Certain vitamins, especially of the vitamin B group, are essential for proper functioning of the thyroid gland. And the thyroid gland controls your metabolism! So when going on diet it is important to support your body with the necessary vitamins to ensure a well functioning metabolism that rather burns the fat than keeps storing it in parts of your body that you want to slim down.

Vitamin B12, the "energy vitamin"

Vitamin B12 deserves special attention in connection with weight loss. It is also known as the "energy vitamin" and said to speed up the metabolism in general and to help carbohydrate metabolism burning the carbohydrates opposed to converting them into fat. But not only that, as most people are deficient in vitamin B12, you will feel an energy surge when levels are getting back to normal. You will finally be able to exercise again and not feeling that tired and exhausted any more. It increases your overall energy consumption by enabling you to a lead a more active lifestyle with physical activities. However, vitamin B12 is sometimes not so well absorbed if taken orally. B12 shots seem to be most effective in that case.

Top up with a good multivitamin supplement

Of course you should also consider other vitamin supplementation when being on diet, like a good multivitamin preparation including the most essential minerals. That way you will get all the vital nutrients while you are eating less food than usual. Optimally, you can cover your vitamin needs by eating lots of organic high quality food. If that is not possible, dietary supplements are essential!
