If you are one of those who are suffering from lack of sleep or insomnia as it is called in medical parlance, you must know the agony it causes. You keep on tossing and turning on the bed for that elusive to come and yet, it never comes. When you do finally fall asleep, it is already too late and the body’s biological clock takes its toll. A normal adult needs about 8 hours of peaceful sleep per day in order to perform their daytime duties normally. However, due to stress and other reasons more than 90% people are not able to sleep for this long. Many of them try alternative means to induce sleep and often end up with disastrous results. There are many people who do not consult doctors and start taking sleeping pills. This is a dangerous trend and might end up in a never-ending abyss. For the first few weeks you might get a peaceful sleep and you might be wondering that your problems have been resolved. This is not the truth since you are not getting normal sleep. The drug is causing your nerves to relax thereby causing your brain to relax thus permitting you to sleep. In order to sleep one requires relaxed nerves and brains. Once your body gets accustomed to the daily dose of sleeping pills, it gets immune to it and you start keeping awake again. The only means out for you is to increase the dosage of the drug. This chain keeps on rotating and one fine day you will find that you have become dependant on the drug. You have become a drug addict. Once you reach this stage, it will become tough and painful for you to recover and revert to your normal lifestyle. There are a number of other non-invasive therapies around and you should consult your physician or psychologist. On many occasions it might be that you are suffering from tension or depression and in these cases treatment with antidepressants for a few days will help you regain your normal sleeping routine.
