Contraception is basically the method adopted to stop a pregnancy. Sometimes fear of pregnancy comes in the way sexual enjoyment and fulfillment because it is understood that if the fear is lurking at the back of the mind one cannot give oneself completely and totally to the sexual act, a fact that can leave either or both partners high and dry and thirsting for more.
There are many different types of contraception methods available and one may have to try out several of them before discovering which one is the most suited to you. In the earlier times people had a number of children not actually out of choice but because they were the natural by product of a sex life which is a necessary part of human existence. Today, people have only as many children as they desire and none at all if they so wish, irrespective of how they lead their sex lives.
The pill remains the most popular method of contraception in all parts of the world. After all it is something that the woman can control and only involves popping a harmless pill. Considering that the couple or at least the woman gets a whole lot of peace of mind in return it is hardly any price to pay. Also at par with the pill as a popular choice for contraception is the male condom because it is simple, cost effective, does not pose any side effects and is more or les reliable when used correctly and consistently. The case for male condoms is quite strong because by physically blocking the semen from coming into direct contact with the body of the sexual partner, it not only prevents unwanted pregnancy but also successfully prevents transmission of sexually transmitted diseases and infections, a very huge plus in today’s growing HIV population.
The copper T, or the coil as it is popularly called is a T shaped IUD, that is to say an Intra Uterine Device which is inserted in the uterus. It is by and large effective unless rejected by the female body for some reason and it can last up to twelve years. The coil can only be fitted by a doctor or nurse as improper fitting can harm the surrounding areas and also cause accident by way of an unwanted pregnancy.
The traditional method is of course the method of withdrawal wherein the male withdraws from the female before ejaculation and the success rate of this method is anybody’s guess given that the tiniest drop of semen is populated with not thousand but millions of sperms. Sometimes, hormones are injected into the female so as to prevent conception. At times people acquaint themselves well with their menstruation cycle and are able to identify their most fertile periods and indulge in sexual activity only in their non fertile period. Once again, this is hit or miss method that often misses and the woman keeps getting hit for unwanted pregnancy.
Though there is a presence of female condoms and contraceptive patches in the family planning market, they are yet to gain ground as effective and popular contraception methods.
Not to be forgotten and by far the most popular and reliable method is the male vasectomy and since it leaves nothing to chance, does not have to be remembered as an everyday thing and it shows the woman that the male cares enough to take precautions so that she is not put through an unwanted pregnancy or even termination of an unwelcome one!
