One of the greatest things that someone can do is to join a cause against breast cancer. One of the ways that many people are doing this nowadays is by signing up for a walk or run that sponsors breast cancer awareness as well as research to help find a cure for cancer. In most states (if not all of them), you can find and register for runs, walks, committees and other types of leadership roles to raise awareness for breast cancer.
Often times, it is harder on the family members than it actually is on the woman who is diagnosed. Chemotherapy treatments and sometimes the fact that many women face having to have a mastectomy can wreak havoc on what would have normally been an ordinary life. When you walk in road races that raise awareness for breast cancer, entry fees can vary but are usually anywhere between $25 and up. You don't have to be in fantastic physical shape in order to participate, and in fact- many of the participants are those who have suffered from or are currently battling cancer themselves.
Doctors are still uncertain as to the actual causes of breast cancer (as they are also unsure of the causes of other forms of cancers); however, there is great speculation that it may have something to do with diet, hereditary predisposition as well as pollutants in the environment. In the meantime, for women everywhere who are concerned with cutting down their risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer, you can take precautions starting with your diet and exercise. Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables and making sure that most of your food sources are organic can prevent many sorts of dietary complications, including other types of health problems such as clogged arteries, diabetes and high cholesterol. Additionally, getting plenty of exercise helps to keep your body in good working order and can prevent other ailments such as osteoporosis and arthritis.
Most importantly, when combating breast cancer or simply trying to prevent it from occurring, you should always make sure that you are keeping regularly scheduled appointments with your doctor. After all, you may be doing everything you can within your life and lifestyle to try to prevent disease from plaguing you, but sometimes it is still not enough. However, if you are seeing your physician on a regular basis, then he or she will be able to catch or detect cancer at the earliest stages possible, which is part of the reason that so many are able to fight through and live past a cancer diagnosis.
At some point in our lives, whether you are a woman or a man, old or young; you will come into contact with someone who has had breast cancer. Participating in something as simple as a walk for a cure can really work wonders because every cent counts towards one day being able to come up with better treatments as well as the possibility of preventing breast cancer from claiming the lives of so many women and men.
