Motivational speakers are the people who help others in need. These professionals offer people help in different areas of life. Whether it is a fitness problem, financial troubles, business conundrums or organizational team building, motivational speakers can address these needs and are there to provide solutions.

Motivational speakers are paid well and the more experienced you are, the more celebrated you will become and as an effect, you can raise your fees. So if you want to become a Motivational Speaker here's how to begin.

Find a Mentor

It is easier to start your motivational speaking career if you have someone with reputed experience and expertise that can teach and guide you in your quest. You should find a mentor who you respect and admire professionally.

Mentors can help you improve your speaking skill. Mentors' firsthand knowledge of the industry can give you great insights. They can also help with your marketing and they can also give you clients to start with.

Pick a niche based on your passions and knowledge

If you have a passion, for instance in health and fitness, and you are actually practicing it, you can choose a particular niche that will need your knowledge and expertise. In this case, you can help people with weight problems. You can provide solutions for people that want to be healthy and stay fit.

Your passion for the topic will fuel your desire for speaking. Your expertise can provide solutions to the public's problems. Just be sure that your chosen niche and topics are profitable. Sometimes very obscure topics will not be able to generate a significant income.

Practice, rehearse, and have as much stage time as you can

'Practice makes perfect' and 'experience is the best teacher.' These may be cliches but they have been proven true time and time again. When the time comes, it will be best for business if you can truly deliver. So in your spare time, make it a point to practice and rehearse. Ask for feedback from your mentor, family, and friends.

You may want to speak for free at times. Speaking for these organizations can help you practice your speeches and delivery. This way you can get comfortable on stage. More stage time increases your confidence. You also get more exposure within the speaking community as well as testimonials and possible referrals for paid speeches.

Market, network, and advertise

At this point, you may already consider yourself a polished speaker but you still need to get booked and get paid. This is probably harder than the first three tips but maybe the most important part of your career. Marketing is essential in any business and speaking is the business of selling speeches and topics.

Have a marketing plan. You can use all the tools and materials possible. Just be sure that you are sending the right message and impression to your niche. Create physical products like books and build a website to advertise your services as well as a platform for selling your speaker products.
