Women and Water Retention

Premenstrual Syndrome, or PMS, includes water retention as a symptom. During PMS, a woman's body is greatly affected by hormonal fluctuations. The monthly rise in estrogens, for some women, also causes a greater output of the hormone aldosterone. Aldosterone causes the kidneys to retain fluids. When this happens, women will gain a few pounds of water.

Treatment for Women Experiencing Water Retention

Women can start with some natural <a" href="href" treatments for water retentionaround the time that they are expecting their periods. One way to naturally treat water retention is to greatly reduce the intake of salt. As the body's equilibrium changes during this time, it is helpful to consider which foods may disrupt the equilibrium. Sodium is one of these ingredients, so as a period approaches, it's best to reduce salt when cooking- other spices, such as pepper, can be substituted. A very important thing to cut down on to avoid or reduce water retention is processed and fast foods, which both contain lots of salt. Following this advice can serve to naturally treat water retention.

The Role of Bananas in Treatment of Water Retention

Bananas are good natural water retention treatments too. Grab some bananas and make a smoothie, or just peel and eat them plain. Bananas contain high amounts of potassium, which helps eliminate fluid retention. If you don't like bananas, you should try water retention prevention by using raisons instead.

Did you know that bananas are helpful in natural water retention treatment? Make a banana smoothie, or just eat some bananas plain. Potassium, an element which bananas contain a high amount of, helps to reduce or eliminate fluid retention. Raisons are also a good option for fluid retention treatment, in case you do not care for bananas.

More Water to Treat Water Retention!

When watere retention is caused by hormonal changes in the body, drinking more water can help reduce bloating effects. However, for other types of water retention, drinking water may not be a good natural solution. It is best to consult with your doctor before beginning a natural treatment plan.

Other Causes of Water Retention

Among women, PMS is the major cause of water retention. However, kidney problems, in both men and women, can also cause water retention. Other problems, such as with the heart, liver, or thyroid, can cause water retention as well. A very simple cause of water retention is consuming too much salt. Because of gravity, retained water flows south, collecting in the feet, ankles, and legs. However, any area of the body can be affected by water retention, To help reduce water retention, elevating the feet and legs works. Putting ice on ankles that are bloated due to water retention can be helpful, too.
