Sometimes after a breakup your ex will come back around and show an interest in going out with you again. Perhaps they continue to flirt with you as if they would like a future encounter again. It is not unusual for an ex to continue to show some attention to the person they dumped or that dumped them. It is fine, if this is happening, that you have some hope of getting back with your ex. It might be a good sign that they continue to show you attention. You may even be asking yourself, "Does my ex want me back or what are they doing?" The first thing you need to do is not get overly excited nor act too fast.
Your ex paying attention to you is a good sign that he or she is interested in getting you back. But, you will need to refrain from jumping the gun and diving right back into it, if you have any chance of getting your ex back long term. Playing hard to get in moderation is the best course of action. That is what your ex will respond to. Being overly enthusiastic usually turns an ex off and you may find him or her pushing you away again pretty quickly. Have you ever thought that the entire reason your ex is paying attention to you again is that he noticed you were playing hard to get, even if you didn’t know you were doing it? He or she probably responded to you ignoring them!
Naturally there will be some missing of each other after a breakup, especially if you have been going out for more than a year. It is normally not as true if you have only been together a short time, but that doesn't mean that you wouldn't want your ex back. Even if you were the one doing the breaking up you probably miss things about your ex, if you had been together for a while. You certainly had some memories which you shared and some good times. You may also be experiencing some past regret which may lead you to think "Does my ex want to get back with me?" Chances are your ex is thinking the same thing or has thought it, as they also will remember good things about the relationship.
One thing you must watch out for is a love game your ex may be playing. He or she may know very well that you still love them and are playing a game to get some attention for themselves. The may have no intention of taking you back, but are lonely and like the attention. You have to determine if your ex is really interested in you again, or just passing time until they find someone they like better. As well it is possible they are attempting some kind of revenge for the breakup. These are reasons not to automatically take your ex back if they are suddenly flirting with or paying attention to you. You will need to try and figure out what their motivation is.
In conclusion, it is not unusual to wonder if your ex wants to get back together with you. But in all cases you must first determine their motivation before you act on their actions. Playing slightly hard to get with you ex protects you because if they do want you back then it will actually attract them even more, but if they are playing games than you will be in the position to make a quick break.
