Today I am going to address a common question; what is the best diet plan? The short answer is there is none. I have to digress here and explain what I mean, so stay with me.
Losing weight is the easy part. Can you believe I just said that? It's true, the hard part is keeping it off! You can temporarily change a behavior,a fad diet, and achieve weight loss; sometimes substantial. The problem is the word temporary. When you go off this diet most people revert to their old habits. When you do this, you will regain all of your weight, PLUS 5-10%. Therefore a fad diet is actually counter productive. That's why there are no best diet plans.
You always need to eat, it's not like giving up smoking, that's why obesity is the number one problem in America. Millions are spent on advertising and Billions are spent on weight loss products and services. So how do you know what diet plans are reputable? This is what I am going to share read on. Remember there really is no best diet plan.
Let me ask you a question. Why are there over weight movie stars and wealthy people? Surely if weight loss was easy and these gimmicks worked all these people would be skinny. No one wants to be obese. Our society reminds of of this everyday. The reason these people are not skinny is none of these fad diet plans work. Qualifier, if it is something you can do forever it's fine to do, but you have to continue that lifestyle change forever!
Weight loss is a simple, yet unfair formula. There are 3500 calories in a pound of fat. We all have the dreaded wild card, a metabolic rate. Obese people tend to have low metabolic rates. A metabolic rate is the amount of calories you would burn if you slept for 24 hrs. It is the amount of calories needed to sustain your bodily functions. Then there is activity, generally termed mild, moderate, sometimes it's high. A desk job is an example of mild activity and a construction worker or athlete are the extreme or high activity folks.
So how does this affect me?, you ask. You eat a variable but predictable amount of calories daily and this can be averaged to find a daily number. Huh, you say; if you wrote down everything you eat for a week and divide by 7 you will get a number, say 2800 calories. If your metabolic rate plus activity equals that number your weight will stay the same. Go over it, you gain, and under you lose weight, get it?
So out of all this confusion comes a solution. You can't calculate your metabolic rate, nor activity easily. But now you know how many calories you eat so you don't need to know these variables. Remember there are 3500 calories in a pound of fat. To lose 4 lbs a month average you need to eat less or exercises more; this needs to equal -500 calories/day. Initially you may lose more weight because your body is 80% water weight. When you burn fat you will also lose fluid weight thus you could have a 10 lbs weight loss. this is why there are no best diet plans. You need to change how you eat or exercise FOREVER!
Well enough for today a few quick recommendations:
1) Do your own calorie count and eat less and exercises more, trying to equal -500 calories a day. 2) Use a reputable weight loss program that you can do FOREVER.
