It's been said that wrinkles tend to add character to a man as he ages, but for a woman, it's an entirely different case. Women tend to be concerned about their looks more than most men, and studies have shown that aging is the number one concern amongst women. Most would agree that a woman's appearance is one of her greatest assets, and with time a woman may lose this asset. Wrinkles and fine lines are part and parcel of aging, and try as we might we can only delay the inevitable onset of aging, and not avoid it completely. So what do we do? We turn to the myriad of beauty products available out there in the market. If you're a woman concerned with wrinkles, you should consider using eye wrinkle creams. If you don't know what to look for in the best eye wrinkle cream, then read on.

The skin around our eyes is very thin, and unlike the skin on other parts of your face, it does not produce any oil. Because of how delicate the skin is, it is usually considered to be amongst the first few areas on your face that exhibits the signs of aging. You might not see any now, but as a preventive measure it is always a good idea to protect this particular area. An eye wrinkle cream helps prevent the age-induced damage around this area, and such creams typically are tested by ophthalmologists to ensure that they are safe to use around your eyes. Most products claim that the pH level of such creams match that of your tears, hence they should be safe for your eyes.

Typically there are two types of eye creams; day creams and night creams. But there is a third option that is neither a day nor night cream, and instead can be used as either.

Day creams, as the name implies, aid in the enhancement of your appearance during the day. Usually the instructions for such creams specifically state that the cream is to be applied in the morning only, and most day creams are in fact gels. Normally when you're fresh out of bed in the mornings your eyes are often puffy and bloated with water while you've been asleep. Day creams work by dehydrating the skin around the eyes, and they usually contain agents such as caffeine, arnica, cucumber, and chamomile.

Night creams on the other hand are eye creams that you apply at night. Just like day creams, often the instructions would have specifically stated that such creams are to be applied at night, before bed. Night creams aid in repairing the skin around the eyes, and prevents further damage that might occur while you're asleep. Such creams usually contain alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) and/or retinol. While these two ingredients can help the fight against wrinkles by exfoliating dead skin cells and helping in the production of new skin cells, they can decrease the effectiveness of sunscreen and they can cause your skin to become more sensitive to the sun, hence why night creams should only be used at night.

The third cream is one that is somewhat "universal", as it can be used in either the day or night. This type of cream is usually just a glorified moisturizer for the eyes, and typically they do not contain any of the stronger anti-wrinkle ingredients like retinol or AHAs.

The best advice that anyone can get with regards to choosing the best eye wrinkle cream is to get one that contains ingredients which will aid in the prevention of damage to and protection of the skin around the eyes, and most products that contain AHAs and retinol are enough to do the job in staving off wrinkles around the eyes.
