What’s your Purpose in Life?

Each of us is truly unique and that’s what makes us all special. Because we are unique this also means that our purpose in life is unique for each of us too. Knowing your true purpose is something that often eludes many of us.

What is purpose? Purpose is the reason why you are here. It gives your life direction and meaning. It’s what you are good at, what’s natural for you and is what you love doing. Without purpose you can wander through life aimlessly and feeling lost.

The well known phrase “do the work you love and love the work you do” is a key to defining your own purpose.

Have you ever had an idea that got you so excited and pumped? There’s no effort involved in taking action because you are focused and inspired. You could keep going day and night to achieve your objective, getting more energised as you go. You are passionate about your cause and feel fulfilled in making it a reality. When you feel like this you are fulfilling your purpose.

In comparison, if  you don’t feel good about what you are doing, things keep going wrong, you lack motivation, and  you’re not inspired by what you are doing, you ‘re not living your purpose. If you’re honest with your feelings you’ll know that what you’re doing is just not right for you. As Bob Proctor says, “Your purpose in this lifetime is to do the thing that you love.”

According to Bob Proctor, “Purpose gives meaning to WHY you’re doing what you’re doing.” And is “…what gets YOU juiced….what gets YOU moving at the start of each day”.

In trying to define your own true purpose, you may come up against well-meaning family and friends and past experiences that may cloud your thinking. Nobody knows you better than you so it’s essential that you really listen to your heart and your head as ONLY you can truly define your purpose, not those around you.

What is true within you?

If you have never taken the time to find out, you need to for your benefit – it’s crucial to living a fulfilling life that’s simple, easy and fun!!

To help you find out your purpose you need to regularly spend some time on your own, about ten minutes at a time, with no distractions (no TV, music or whatever you normally have to fill in the quiet of your day). Ideally, sit quietly outside in nature but if that’s not possible, sit in your room alone at home with the door closed.

Take the time to think about you and be really honest. There are no right or wrong answers and there’s no need to share the list with anyone else.

Think about the things that you like to spend your time doing;

the things you enjoy spending your money on;

the things you love to surround yourself with;

the things that energise you when you do them;

the things you like to talk about,

and the things that you enjoy thinking about.

Don’t let past negative experiences or failings or the input from others overrule your thoughts. We have all had failings in the past but that doesn’t mean that we will fail in that area again in the future. What someone else thinks will suit you is exactly that – someone else’s thoughts. You owe it to yourself to really listen to yourself! As Bob Proctor says, “You must recognize the unique gift of you. You’re an individualized, phenomenal expression of life.”

Grab a piece of paper and a pen and write down your answers to those questions. Look over that list and see the common thread that links your thoughts. This most likely will be the thing that inspires you: your purpose.

Write your purpose down as a statement. If you have been honest with yourself, your statement will feel good as you say, write and read it. Try and keep it your purpose statement short, as this make it more powerful. Do the exercise regularly, fine tuning your statement as you feel necessary until your statement really resonates with you.

If you haven’t found YOUR purpose, take the time to do it know.

Go on. Give yourself a time gift of 10 minutes. You’re worth the effort!!!
