Maid or Matron of Honor

A maid of honor is an unmarried woman; a matron of honor is married. Her main role is to help the bride with wedding planning. This might involve running errands, helping her select attire, addressing invitations, or making phone calls to vendors. Traditionally, she also hosts a shower or luncheon for the bride. On the wedding day, she helps th bride get dresses, adjust here veil and train before she starts down the aisle, holds her bouquet during the ceremony, and keeps the wedding ring until the ring exchange part of the ceremony.

She stands to the left of the groom in the receiving line and later sits to the left of the groom and the head table. Usually, a bride chooses a close friend or sister to be her honor attendant. But there have also been some cases where the bride's mother or stepmother is the matron of honor, or else a sister, friend, or relative of the groom. This is a once-in-a-lifetime decision.

The Best Man
Married or not, the groom's honor attendant is called the best man. Hes host or organizes a bachelor party for the groom, helps the groom dress for the wedding day and signs the marriage license as an official witness. he also holds the officiant's fee until the groom needs it, and keeps the wedding ring until the groom needs it during the ceremony. The best man offers a toast to the couple at the reception, and he's the one responsible for arranging transportation or personally driving the bride and groom to their honeymoon hotel or to the airport. Often, the best man takes charge of collecting all the tuxedos for return to the rental shop.

The Bridesmaids

You can have oodles of bridesmaids. Generally, a rule of thumb says you need one usher for every fifty guests, and sometimes people translate that to also mean on bridesmaid for every usher. But if the bride wants six bridesmaids and the groom wants two ushers, so be it. Bridesmaid assist the honor attendant with planning a shower of luncheon for the bride. They take part in all the prewedding celebrations and walk behind the ushers during the processional. In the receiving line, they stand to the left of the maid of honor. At the wedding, their main job is to sit an the left of the maid of honor. At the wedding, their main job is to sit at the head table and urge all the single women to join in the bouquet tossing ritual.
